MARYBOROUGH PONY CLUB RIDERS TO COMPETE AT VICTORIAN STATE HORSE TRIALS
Maryborough Pony Club will be represented by five riders at the coming Victorian State Pony Club Horse Trials to be held at Albury. Over 170 riders from clubs in Victoria will ride at the State Horse Trials. 15 club teams will contest the team’s event. Maryborough Pony Club Team will be represented by Katherine Clegg, Amanda Durbridge, Jenna Wright and Steffi Hurse. Maryborough Pony Club will also be represented by Rebecca Bushby competing at the Championships.
Katherine Clegg riding Cariboo Creek and Rebecca Bushby riding Galadga Park Docker will compete in the Grade 1 section of the Championships. Katherine and Cariboo Creek have only been competing together for 4 months. They competed well at grade 2 level and recently have been upgraded to grade 1. Katherine and Cariboo Creek won at the Hamilton Horse Trails and were placed 3rd at both the Bacchus Marsh and Midland Zone Horse Trials to qualify for the State Championships. Katherine rode at last years State Horse Trials on another horse in grade 1.
Rebecca Bushby and Galadga Park Docker have enjoyed the past 12 months competing. They won the Maryborough and Smythesdale Horse Trials last year at grade 2 level and were then up graded to grade 1. They have competing regularly at grade 1 level as well as Open EFA to Pre Novice level, being placed at Colac. After recent injuries Docker has returned to form to qualify for the State Championships at the Riddles Creek Horse Trials. Both Rebecca and Docker have had previous experience at State Horse Trials with them teaming together for the Grade 2 Championships last year.
Steffi Hurse and Stacks on the Mill have had a great past six months competing. Up until 12 months ago Stacks on the Mill had a very successful career as a racehorse. Steffi has been riding him for the past 12 months. Steffi and Stacks on the Mills has had recent success at the Charlton Horse Trials finishing 4th. They competed well at both Bacchus Marsh and Riddles Creek Horse trials to qualify for the State Championships. This will be both Steffi and Stacks on the Mills first State Horse Trials.
Jenna Wright and Janeliles Deutschmark are a new combination. They have only been competing together this year. They were placed 7th at the recent Charlton Horse Trials. They travelled to the Tooradin Horse Trials and were very pleased with a clear cross country round on a tough course. Jenna has had previous experience at State Horse Trials, competing at the 2006 State Horse Trials on another horse.
Young rider Amanda Durbridge will be competing at her first State Horse Trials on British Bounty. Amanda and British Bounty have had a good eventing season being upgraded to grade 2 early this year. They were placed 1st in the dressage and overall at the Charlton Horse Trials. At the recent Midland Zone Horse Trials they finished 2nd and placed 3rd at Ballan Horse Trials.
Other Maryborough riders qualified for the State Horse Trials but elected not to enter. Serena Woess, Stacey Dolling, Chris Davies and Samantha Hutchins all qualified but due to school, work and the distance of the event decide not to compete.
Maryborough Pony Club is very proud to have nine riders qualify for the State event.
