AUGUST 2007 HORSE TRIALS
The Maryborough Pony Club hosted their Winter Horse Trials on the weekend. One hundred riders travel to Maryborough to compete.
Six riders entered for the grade 1 section with Kristy Austin from Stawell winning both the dressage and overall.
Maryborough combination Chris Davies and Fight for Gold were the overall winners in the Grade 2 section. Chris was the youngest rider in the section and was excited with his win. Riding in her first grade 2 event, Morgan Marshall from Bendigo Pony Club won the grade 2 dressage. Local rider Elizabeth Dridan and Sir Wintson rode in grade 2 for the first time and was pleased with their 4th place.
Grade 3 was won by Jane Stanley and Bundy Rum. Jane is a member of the Charlton Pony Club. Maryborough rider Alison Dridan and Incontro finished 3rd in Grade 3. Another young Maryborough rider Ali Davies and Commanche rode well in be placed 6th in grade 3. Maryborough riders Rosie Mason and Chelsea Gerring both rode in their first grade 3 Horse Trials.
Twenty five riders competed in the grade 4 event. Overall winner was Barwon Head’s rider Sean Gray. Lochard Pony Club member Fleur Barling placed 2nd in grade 4. Paigan Gould from Bealiba finished in 3rd place. Maryborough riders Shelby Thompson and Rhiannon Hoban both rode in the grade 4 event and rode well to finish just outside the placings. Mairead Cardamone-Breen and her horse Just a Touch of class have only recently started eventing. They had two clear jumping rounds with just time faults keeping them out of the placings.
Young Maryborough rider Maddison Hovey and Shadow rode well winning their first horse trials in grade 5. Maddison is now looking forward to her first ride at Werribee Park next month. Second placed went to Katelyn Billinghurst with fellow Beaiba rider Hillary Jones finishing third. Local rider Shanea Thompson was placed 3rd in the grade 5 Combined Training Competition. Other Maryborough riders riding in this grade were Ebony Holloway, Jessica Adam-Raine and Jess West. All girls rode well and gained much experience from the competition.
Open section winners were Rachel Keeton in grade 2, Lisa Streeter in grade 3, Kay Whykes in grade 4 and Jannette Addison in Grade 5.
Grade 4 open rider Michelle Kreusel returned to her old pony club to compete. Michelle was previously a member of the Maryborough Pony Club with her horse Anja. Michelle competed on the weekend on Anja’s foal Lucinda. They placed 2nd in the Grade 4 Open Horse Trials and 1st in the Grade 4 Open Combined Training.
